Mario Crossover
I've posted links to the old school video game mashups in the forums. This is another one... except that it's real. This is a flash game with some of your favorite 8-bit characters taking on the worlds in Super Mario Brothers. It doesn't have the hardcore fidelity to the 8-bit days that others have, but I give all the credit in the world to the guy for taking on such a project by himself.
The Maytag repairmen of United States sovereignty, commonly known as the US Department of Defense has been around for quite a while. Sometimes it can be tough to keep up with the times. Sometimes, it's just really hard to say good-bye. But as the Japanese say, death brings life. So let's see the coming's and going's in the defense industry.
Everyone wish a Happy Birthday to our illustrious Sarge, he is now one year closer to death so we need to treat him kind because old people like him need positive people around them. Happy Birthday Akilly-Pooh! [Submitted by Dewey]
What if I told you that the world's best multi-player shooter, the world's best first-person puzzle game, the most ground-breaking first person shooter and the world's integrated gaming store and interface were... ALL. ONE. PRODUCT. *thunderous cheering* Valve software is proud to introduce: iBox.
Okay, not quite. But those in the cult of mock turtlenecks and small glasses will have new use for their white plastic boxes. Valve has announced that its Steam interface and entire catalog, including the upcoming Portal 2, will be made available to Mac users. In addition, games will be cross-compatible with PC users online. Certainly, the d-bag sucking down the venti crappuccino will have something to boast about before he hops into his Jetta, but the joke will be on him. With no second mouse button, Mac users will be unable to: shoot portal exits, zoom in with sniper rifles, airblast, cloak, point buildings, ubercharge, detonate, or melee. Heh. Suckers.
With the new decade upon us, I thought it would be nice to look at where we're at with gaming. But before we look ahead, we'd best look back and get our bearings. So first, we'll have to look at what the previous year had to offer. After a long nap, it's time to bring back The Jennies!
We're counting the days down to The Passing, the DLC for Left 4 Dead 2. While you normally don't get the gear-cranking sense of urgency that you do from big guys like EA or Ubi, Valve always lets you know something is going on. In this case, they've got a sequel in the works for arguably the most ingenious game of the decade (more substance to back up my claim in the coming days). Specifically, Portal 2 is adding in the ONLY thing that could make it better: co-op.
Valve's greatest asset, the mod community continues to craft the outstanding mods that it's known for. Three year old Team Fortress still remains wildly popular and relevant, thanks to upcoming mods like this. Originally entered in Valve's Team Fortress 2 map contest, The Great Class Dash is a side scrolling mod for TF2. The goal won't be epic point battles, it'll be to use the classes' traits and abilities to get from one end of the map to the other. The vid looks epic.
Fiinally, not everything Valve touches turns to gold. Enter, the Engineer Update. They've been diligently working to get the diligent worker his just desserts. But just like anyone else, they suffer writer's block from time to time and have to trudge through many bad ideas to get to a good one
The original FarCry is the title that is responsible for the formation Jenny's Platoon. Crytek provided large areas to fight in and a gameplay mechanic that allowed for speed and teamwork. Crysis took all the mistakes they made from FarCry out for another spin and built upon that by taking out the successful aspects. Crytek has promised to atone for its sins with Crysis 2. All we know is that CryEngine3 is shiny and C2 is in New York for some reason. Feel free to extrapolate whatever else you like from these two pictures.
Uncle Sam's fightin' club commonly known as the US DoD is always up to wacky stuff. Find out a few things that they're up to by clicking the link below.
You're expecting some sort of witty play on words from me on this. But that part of my brain is overloaded. Apparently, there's a "favorite" button in the cavity of the mouse that can be programmed... okay screw this, I'm not getting paid. Here's the source. If you have something witty, post. This is the most WTF'ed I've been in a while.
For the longest time, video games were stuck in the WWII rut. Well these days, "now" is the new WWII. Well it was. Now, "now" is passe and "future" is the new now. Ubisoft, not satisfied with crapping on Tom Clancy's name, is now ready to open up the other hatch for more vile acts. Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, set for a fall release, will supposedly feature technology from the Army's Brigade Combat Team Modernization program, such as live battlefield networking with equipment and personnel. If you think this sounds like GRAW or GRAW 2, you're wrong. FutureSoldier (what GRAW was based on) is now a thing of the past because it was meant to turn soldiers into walking (soon to be replaced) F-16's, and BCT is now more "future" because it will presumably turn soldiers into walking F-35's. Well I'm now thoroughly confused about the premise. If this game doesn't have sharks with freakin' laser beams, I'm not buying. Check their announcement trailer.
I'd expected his lovely wife to post a birthday greeting, but apparently she doesn't love him. Well anyway, everybody's favorite Dew-che celebrated his 28th birthday with nice evening with his wonderful family at the loc... oh he didn't? He was stuck on an Air Force base in Fairfield? Oh jeez, well that sucks. Well JP is glad you're out keeping us safe.... for Dew-mocracy.
