 | This is it. If you're a gamer nerd and you want to know how your wallet will be drained next year and what you'll be holed up playing all winter, then E3 is the place to go... unless you can make it to ComiCon, Leipzig, Tokyo.... hmm. Well, E3 kicks off video game expo season. Thousands of nerds have descended upon downtown Los Angeles to have their imaginations capture. Our very own Panther is in attendance, but unfortunately she's been whored out to two other outfits and all we'll get outta her is booth babes... not that we're complaining. What got our attention during the kickoff? Let's find out...
First, lets talk periphals. Following Nintendo's lead... 3 years later, Sony is showcasing the Playstation Move. Not to be outdone, Microsoft has renamed Project Natal, Kinect. Aaaaaand, Rock Band will teach you how to rock out, like, rock out 4rlz.
I'm a devout follower in the Church of Valve. I couldn't be happier to have another dose of GlaDOS, her confectionery promises and her flippant attitude toward your impending doom while she challenges your spatial processing in Portal 2.
JP notables include the gameplay debuts of Crysis 2 and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
Certainly, there are a few A-List titles that caught my eye. Heavyweight contender in the zombie genre, Dead Rising will be back with more ways to slay the undead, including antlers and wheelchairs. Call of Duty: Black Ops, takes us back to the height of the Cold War. It remains to be seen how the latest edition of CoD will hold up against last year's record-setter, but Treyarch will provide more ways to kill the commie menace, including SR-71 and attack chopper operations. Speaking of special ops, how about SpecOps: Frontlines, which will take you to land of appalling excess, Dubai, UAE, to duke it out in this gritty world. And FINALLY... game makers are listening to your demands to play as a space marines. Relic, creators of the fantastic Dawn of War RTS'es, will take you off your God-perch and put you into the boots of your soldiers, in Warhammer 40K: Space Marines
Okay, look I enjoy some good ol action as much as the next guy. But I gotta say, Day 1 has been stale. Sequels don't bug me, it's that nobody is really doing a whole lot with them. This is why Nintendo stole the day. They trotted out the 3DS and a cool Mario Kart for it. But what about games? New Mario and Mario Galaxy were outstanding games, but never got a whole lot of A-List press. So Ninty has decided to do what any good game giant would do: go back to the glory days! So.... on Kirby, on Epic Mickey, on Kid Icarus, on Donkey Kong Country, on Metroid, on Zelda, on Mario Sports! Bring back our glory!
