 | CryEngine 2 and Unreal Engine 3 are two of the most revered gaming engines out there (why eGo doesn't get its props is beyond me). CE2 is known for its dazzling visuals which were featured in tech dem... uh, flagship FPS Crysis and other titles such as, um... ya know... like, uh... okay nobody is arguing that Crysis was really really pretty. Meanwhile UE3 was featured in Unreal Tournament 3, mega-hit Gears of War 1 and 2, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 and the outstanding Batman: Arkham Asylum. Clearly, CryTek has some catching up to do. So for CE3, they've adopted a much more customer-oriented approach, rather than an engineer-oriented approach. They offer What-You-See-Is-What-You-Play rendering, allowing real-time viewing of your environments for the PS3, Xbox360 and PC, all at the same time, to allow for faster porting across platforms. Also, CE3 features integrated destruction and physics, "advanced AI", and improved particle, lighting and soft-shadow effects. Okay great... now if CryTek knew what was good for it, they'd fire their game developers and ask Valve to design Crysis 2. In return, Valve gets a free copy of CE3 and gets to rename it Source 2.
